Can't you use a calendar reminder for this?
Most smart phones and phones in general allow users to setup daily, weekly etc reminders.

The reason I mentioned it was that I never received collection schedule this year and the city's web site continually says that my address is invalid, so I am left to rely on my neighbour's actions to remind me.
As for it's usage, in case you are new to Edmonton, every long weekend will cause the collection day to be bumped up by a day, and the pickup frequency changes in the winter. ie the schedule is not consistent.

I just thought that this functionality can be achieved using the calendar.

Ya a garbage collection app would be great! that way the need to print off calendars could be reduced. Printing costs could drop and the information would be up to date if dates were to change etc. etc.
